Peter Moeck studied crystallography in Germany at Leipzig and Berlin University (Dr. rer. nat. in crystallography in 1991.) He held postdoctoral/research fellow positions at both the Technical University Berlin and Humboldt University Berlin, the Universities of Durham and Oxford, as well as Imperial College London. In the year 2000, he migrated to the USA to take up a position as research assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since 2002, he has been on the faculty of the Department of Physics at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. He has so far published more than 125 peer reviewed papers, seven book chapters, as well as over 250 conference papers, book reviews, extended abstracts, and editorials. His current research interests include all aspects of applied crystallography.
Professor Dr. Moeck was one of the founders of the Springer-Nature journal “Advanced Structural and Chemical Imaging”. He currently serves on the editorial board of the open-access MDPI journal “Crystals” and on the advisory board of the venerable Wiley-VCH journal “Crystal Research and Technology”. For several years, he served as representative of the Microscopy Society of America at the National Committee for Crystallography of the Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine of the USA. He was a consultant to the Commission on Electron Crystallography of the International Union of Crystallography for several years. In 2017, Peter was elected to full membership in this commission.
