Steffi Woo has a Bachelor of Materials Engineering and Society with a minor in Chemistry (2009) from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. She obtained her Master of Applied Science in Materials Engineering in 2011 for her thesis work on the characterization of extended defects in group III-V semiconductor thin films by conventional transmission electron microscopy supervised by Prof. Gianluigi Botton also at McMaster University. In 2017, she obtained her Ph.D. with a thesis focus on the structural and chemical variations in group III-nitride nanowire heterostructures, also supervised by Prof. Gianluigi Botton. During her Ph.D., she was a visiting researcher at the CEA-Minatec in Grenoble, France and at the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (LPS) in Orsay, France. Subsequently, she joined the STEM group at the LPS as a post-doctoral fellow in October 2017 supervised by Dr. Alberto Zobelli and Dr. Luiz Tizei working on the optical response of 2D materials, including h-BN and transition metal dichalcogenides, using electronic energy-loss spectroscopy and cathodoluminescence.
