Karsten Goemann is a Senior Research Fellow at the Central Science Laboratory of University of Tasmania (Australia) and has been responsible for the Scanning Electron Microscopy & X-Ray Microanalysis facility there since 2006. He earned his PhD in mineralogy-geochemistry from Technical University of Clausthal (Germany) in 2000 with an electron microprobe focussed thesis on the trace element distribution in tertiary basalt dikes intruded into evaporite domes in central Germany. This was followed by several years as a PostDoc in Materials Science, investigating solid state ionic transport in semiconducting oxide materials at high temperatures. His research in his current role focuses broadly on the development and application of microanalytical techniques for the study of natural and synthetic materials, predominantly minerals.
