Corporate Analytical Laboratories, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Taiwan (Republic of China)
Ta-Kun Chen is a Section Manager in the Department of Advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), where he collaborates with N2 platform R&D teams, Path-finding and Corporate Research groups, and develops specific TEM techniques to solve present and anticipated limits in material analysis.
Ta-Kun received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from National Dong Hwa University after completing his undergraduate studies at National Tsing Hua University. He worked as a postdoc in the Institute of Physics at Academia Sinica and as a visiting postdoc in EMAT at the University of Antwerp, where he focused on the phase identification and the relationship between meta-stable phases and electrical/magnetic properties in iron-based superconductors.
Ta-Kun has published over 40 papers with more than 5000 citations. After joining TSMC as a principal engineer, he was involved in the development of N10, N5, and N3 technology nodes, primarily in the front-end-of-line. As a section manager, he oversaw 4 off-line and 3 near-line TEM laboratories across 4 fabs with different technology nodes at different sites. Following a re-organization, he now works more closely with R&D and focuses on technical development of TEM.
