My life-long experiences as a curious, invested, collaborative researcher drove me to become
the Program Director of the University Imaging Centers (UIC) at the University of Minnesota
(UofMN) where I have been for the past 28 years. Formal education and employment from the University of Akron,
Ohio State University, Case Western University and the Mayo Clinic shaped the foundation for
my journey. I have an enduring interest in advancing scientific research and in the way shared
facilities support research through rapid implementation of emerging imaging methods to
explore and understand the unseen. My program is driven by the principle that imaging
technologies offer a fundamental, and often visually stunning, solution for probing the basis of
biological events across multiple scales. Further, the most efficient way to answer modern
research questions is through the educated use of both multi-modal imaging and molecular
tools. I have applied my broad and in-depth research experiences to help students, artists,
investigators choose, effectively incorporate, and drive the development of cutting-edge imaging
techniques to better understand the world around them at a spatial and temporal scales not
easily obtainable otherwise.
