I received my Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota under C. Barry Carter, and used SEM, TEM, FIB-SEM, APT, EDS, EBSD and AFM to study Liquid Phase Sintering in ceramics. During my postdoc at EMPA-Thun, Switzerland, I helped develop AFM and ToF-SIMS capabilities placed in situ to a FIB-SEM. I was FIB-SEM subject matter expert at Idaho National Laboratory during my second postdoc, and first in the USA to prepare TEM lamellae of nuclear fuel. Afterwards, I worked as a Senior Applications Engineer for FEI demonstrating, training, and developing applications for SEM, FIB-SEM and SBF-SEM. I joined Joe Gray's laboratory and OHSU in 2017. While in the Gray lab, I developed workflows to image human cancer biopsies with vEM as part of the SMMART clinical trials and NIH’s Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN). Additionally, I was a member of the OHSU Multiscale Microscopy Core, directed by Claudia López. My current research as an OHSU-CEDAR program Scientist is focused on understanding early-stage cancers and associated phenotypic changes as progression initiates. I am particularly interested in adding CLEM, AT and EDS to my workflows to move closer to coupling EM with omic studies.
